Hello, and welcome to my site. My name is Gene and I currently live in a small ecovillage in Madison Wisconsin. The organization is a horizontal consensus-based organization where decisions are made by the members and no one person or group of people speak on behalf of or rule the others. Some, including myself, would describe this as an anarchist community, though the word is rarely used in discussions or in descriptions of the community.
About me generally
I grew up during the 1970’s and 1980’s in a small conservative town in Indiana and would often stay with my grandparents during the summers in another small conservative town. I was considered “shy”, though i now know it is introversion, and soft spoken. I learned to read at an early age and would read anything available, including ingredients on packaging. I preferred books over interactions with people, so I think I was viewed as odd, or weird. I often felt out of place.
The idea of egalitarianism has intrigued me since i was young, and the injustices and inequalities of the world I have found heartbreaking and energy draining. One way I have found that achieves a more egalitarian community is the processes that anarchists use, which is mainly what I will blog about, and the community I’m living in. I would describe my apolitical views as anarchist, though I’m a bit more of an action anarchist than philosophical. More direct action, less talk!
Onward!
